The goal of DCTC's Safety Action Plan is to reduce crashes, especially fatal and serious injury crashes, across all types of transportation and on all public roads in Dutchess County.

The Plan is designed to align with USDOT’s Safe Streets for All program (SS4A), the Safe Systems Approach, and State safety plans, and will enable any municipality within Dutchess County to pursue SS4A implementation funding.

The Plan includes the following components:

  • Review existing safety plans, policies, and best practices
  • Analyze crashes and other data and identify key crash trends, types, and factors, as well as priority high-crash locations
  • Identify improvement measures, priority projects, and performance measures to improve safety across the county's transportation system
  • Conduct outreach to municipalities and other stakeholders via interviews, in-person events, virtual events, surveys, and other tools

The Plan is managed by DCTC, led by a consultant team, and guided by an Advisory Committee with members from various County Departments, the New York State Department of Transportation and State Police, local municipalities, and other partners.
