Thank you to everyone who shared feedback during the second round of community engagement for the Monroe Park Renovation project, which was open from April 18 to May 16, 2025.

We are now sharing back the input we received. The comments below reflect a wide range of community perspectives and ideas. While this input is shared without additional context or grouping, it has informed the design process and will continue to help guide next steps.

Consider the features listed below. Which concept has the best design or location for that feature?

Concept 1 is better. Following comments are about Concept 1.
Please add more benches than shown including on solid pads with room next to them to park wheelchairs and strollers and not block paths.
Extend pathway from picnic shelter to NE corner access to park so people can access shelter from Monroe ST - this also creates continuous path cutting across park NE/SW. The current NE/SW paved path is heavily used by pedestrians of all ages year-round walking to Monroe ST and up to Columbia Pike for the bus stop and businesses. If a continuous paved path NE/SW is not provided people will wear a path in the ground - that is what happened before the current paved path was created in conjunction with the current playground constructed in 2000.
Swings are away from house at 3625 S. 14th ST - much better location than in Concept 2.
Have trash cans at SW/SE/NE corners and at picnic shelter and playground areas - they are needed.
Thanks for the presentation and opportunity to comment.

Just move the picnic area.

Prefer less new building on grass/tree areas, as in Concept 2. Is it really necessary to have a second loop in Concept 2. That extra walkway doesn't seem to be necessary. Keep it green instead, move the benches to another part of walk.

Concept appears to have larger parker areas. Will there be any shade coverings over the benches, picnic areas, or playground areas? {There should be.}

I like that the pavillion is separate from the play area

Is there anything else you would like us to know about the concepts or play equipment?
Unfortunately, the slides can get extremely HOT in summer and burn kids' hands, knees, etc. Can the climbing area be bigger to match the one in Clarendon near Whole Foods? One picture shows shaded area over playground. Any chance to get shaded areas over other playgrounds and/or add awnings? It can get really hot on the equipment. Parks need to be inviting with covered areas and benches for parents too.

Please don't use metal slides, give kids more opportunities to climb up to use upper body strength -- possibly something that can resemble tree climbing instead of the ineffective climbing walls. Would be nice to have different levels of difficulty.

Maybe structures with a roof are slightly preferable for hot sunny days?

Love them all!
