Fourth of July Holiday Closing Announcement
The Library of Michigan will be closed from Friday, July 4, 2025 through Sunday, July 6, 2025 for the Fourth of July Holiday. The Library of Michigan will reopen on Monday, July 7, 2025. All reference questions and library card applications will be processed during the week after reopening.

Michigan Poet Laureate Host Applications and Michigan Author Award Nominations
The Library of Michigan and the Michigan Department of Education are supporting a limited number of events for the Michigan Poet Laureate Dr. Melba Joyce Boyd to engage with audiences across the state of Michigan. If you are interested in hosting an event with the Michigan Poet Laureate, visit the Michigan Poet Laureate page at Michigan.gov/PoetLaureate and select the link for the Tour Request Form.
The Library of Michigan and Michigan Center for the Book are seeking nominations for the 2025-2026 Michigan Author Award. The award recognizes an outstanding published body of literary work by an author who is either from Michigan or has substantial ties to Michigan. The Michigan Author Award was established in 1992 with the intention of recognizing significant Michigan authors with a lifetime achievement award. Over the years, the award has been given to a diverse collection of writers working in a variety of genres and styles. Go to the Michigan Author Award page at Michigan.gov/MIAuthorAward to find the criteria for nominations, a list of past recipients, and a link to the online nomination form.

Library of Michigan at the Historical Society of Michigan Upper Peninsula History Conference
The Library of Michigan is proud to be a sponsor of the Historical Society of Michigan 2025 Upper Peninsula History Conference taking place June 27-29, 2025 in Houghton. Innocents In Peril Exhibit
View the powerful images of Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Taro Yamasaki paired with the evocative poetry of award-winning author/poet Anne-Marie Oomen. This unique exhibition explores themes of children living with the threats of poverty, disease, natural disasters, and armed conflict. Experience an unforgettable fusion of visual narrative and poetic response that invites reflection and conversation.
