Mosquito Prevention Starts at Home
Keeping mosquitoes away is easier than you think—and it starts right outside your door. Since mosquitoes tend to stay close to where they hatch, small actions around your home can help reduce their numbers and protect your family.
- Dump standing water from buckets, birdbaths, plant saucers, toys, tarps and gutters.
- Treat water you can’t drain with Mosquito Dunks® or Bits®. They're safe, affordable and available at local garden centers.
- Avoid overwatering your lawn; one inch of water per week (including rain) is enough.
- Keep grass clippings, leaves, and yard waste out of streets and storm drains.
When outdoors, especially between dusk and dawn, use insect repellent with DEET, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus (always follow label instructions). Wear long, light-colored clothing and use fans on porches or patios to help keep mosquitoes away.
Please note: The Woodlands Township does not provide mosquito control services such as spraying. For mosquito-related concerns, contact your county directly—Montgomery County or Harris County, depending on your location.
