NEW: Person-centred approaches

Person-centred approaches document

We have recently updated our learning resources on person-centred approaches, and are pleased to share our new resource, Exploring person-centred approaches

In this resource you will find new information about paternalistic practice, including what paternalistic practice is; the impact of paternalistic practice; and how to avoid it.

This resource has been developed in response to our Safeguarding Adults Review in respect of Tom, which highlighted some evidence of paternalistic practice. Therefore, please do ensure that you share this within your organisations.

NEW: Supporting adults at risk of choking

Choking risks guidance

Any adult is at risk of choking. However, it is important to be aware that adults within health and social care services may be at an increased risk of choking, for a variety of reasons.

We have therefore developed some multi-agency guidance aimed at supporting staff with managing choking risks. Please ensure that you share this widely within your organisations.

UPDATED: Quick reference guides

Quick Reference Guides

We have recently published refreshed versions of two key learning resources.

These are quick reference guides on Making Safeguarding Personal and safeguarding early warning signs.

You can find both of these documents on our Core safeguarding learning resources webpage.

Please do share these within your organisations, and your networks.

Our self-neglect staff briefings

We have now completed our series of eight staff briefings on self-neglect. These briefings provided staff with an overview of what self-neglect is; what research locally and nationally tells us about self-neglect; and where staff can go to access self-neglect practice resources and guidance.

We hope that attendees found these briefings useful, and that staff left the briefings feeling more confident about working with adults who self-neglect, as well as how to access support and resources. Across the eight sessions, we were pleased to welcome around 480 attendees from across the partnership.

If you were unable to attend our staff briefings, but would like to find out more about working with adults who self-neglect, take a look at our resources.
