Request for Information: Draft Distributed Energy Resource Interconnection Roadmap

The U.S. Department of Energy has issued a request for information (RFI) to gather input on a draft Distributed Energy Resource (DER) Interconnection Roadmap(link is external). This roadmap was prepared by the Interconnection Innovation e-Xchange (i2X) program as a stakeholder-driven guide to improve interconnection practices for DERs on the distribution and sub-transmission grids.

DERs produce and supply electricity on a small scale and are distributed over a wide area. DERs include a diverse and evolving set of technologies, such as distributed rooftop solar or community solar systems, distributed wind systems, electric vehicle charging equipment, and battery energy storage.

Feedback is requested from all interconnection stakeholders, including but not limited to utilities, grid operators, regulators, state and local governments, interconnection customers, energy justice groups, nonprofits, clean energy developers, solution providers, public interest groups, Tribes, and trade associations.

The purpose of this RFI is to solicit feedback on the challenges and solutions identified in the draft roadmap, especially any important goals, solutions, or success metrics that are missing or described adequately.
