Building Bridge #2 Removal
Description
The bridge platform, known as Building Bridge 2 (BB2), obstructs the natural flow of the creek and is structurally unsound, creating a significant flood risk for hundreds of properties in downtown San Anselmo and the Town of Ross. The District has been working diligently with its regional partners and affected property owners to make the flood control improvements strategically and in accordance with relevant FEMA requirements. Final analyses, reviews, and permitting for BB2 removal are underway.
Purpose and need
- BB2 obstructs creek water flow, poses a flood hazard, is structurally unsound and threatens public safety.
- Removal of BB2 will allow more stormwater runoff to remain in the creek and reduce flood risk for hundreds of properties in San Anselmo and Ross.
- Removal of BB2 will complement the construction of San Anselmo’s Reimagined Creekside Park.
- The flood control improvement work will enhance creek channel capacity and fish habitat.
- Mitigation measures will be implemented for affected parcels in conformance with FEMA, local Floodplain Ordinance and the Environmental Impact Report (EIR).
