This special meeting of the Fish and Wildlife Commission is for evaluation of closure of hunting district (HD) 622 to harvest of sheep for the 2025 season.
A recent survey was conducted on March 27, 2025 in HD 622. Only five bighorn sheep were observed, one of which died during the observation. That animal has been collected and transported to the Wildlife Health laboratory in Bozeman for necropsy and disease testing. Historically, 100–300 bighorn sheep were counted on this same survey. The population seems to have diminished to the point where it is unreasonable to issue the one either-sex and one adult ewe licenses authorized.
