Suicide Awareness Month
September is designated as Suicide Awareness Month—focusing on prevention and helping those who are struggling with suicidal thoughts. Suicide is recognized as an urgent and growing public health crisis across the country.
Individuals who are struggling with suicidal thoughts typically exhibit various warning signs. These warning signs can include changes in mood or behavior, talking about suicide or death, and giving away possessions. If someone you know begins demonstrating any of these warning signs, it’s crucial to take the person seriously and seek help. You can encourage the individual to seek professional help, and you can contact law enforcement to conduct a welfare check. Educate yourself about suicide, the warning signs, and what steps you can take to support someone struggling with mental-health issues. Remember, suicide is preventable. By raising awareness and acting, we can help save lives.
Please set aside time to attend Karl Rosston’s Suicide Prevention Awareness training scheduled for September 25, 2025 (Suicide in Montana). Karl’s Montana-specific presentation includes tips for us to support and recognize when others are struggling. Unfortunately, Montana has ranked in the top five states for suicide for the last 100 years. Suicide affects teens, elders, veterans, law enforcement, fire fighters, our immediate family members, and some of us individually. Don’t hesitate to seek help for someone or yourself if you recognize the warning signs.
