Rally for Disability Rights, Services

U.S. Senator Tina Smith (Democrat), Minnesota State Senator Jim Abeler (Republican), and disability rights advocates recently rallied support for ICI and other organizations that protect the freedom and access to community living of people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Abeler led the crowd in loud chants. The Arc Minnesota sponsored the rally.

Disability and Loneliness: New Impact

The new issue of Impact magazine explores the global loneliness epidemic through a disability lens. Articles in the issue explore the latest loneliness research, promising programs tackling both loneliness and isolation in people with disabilities, and stories from individuals and families who share what loneliness looks like to them.

"A Hope To Find": MNLEND Alum in the Spotlight

In April, an ICI project revealed that 1 in 28 (3.6%) 8-year-old children in Minnesota has autism. The rising prevalence nationwide sparked comments from federal officials about the causes of autism and triggered a heated debate about how public resources should respond to the increase. Ellie Wilson (MNLEND 2010-11), executive director of the Autism Society of Minnesota, pushed back during a television interview.
