Information, resources and helpful tips to help prepare for any emergency.
Residents of The Woodlands are encouraged to develop emergency preparedness plans for their families and neighbors. The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Services along with The Woodlands Fire Department can assist residents with these plans through its Ready Woodlands program, which provides information on how to be prepared for both natural and man-made emergencies.
In addition to basic emergency preparedness steps outlined by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on the Ready.gov website, the program also includes information that pertains specifically to The Woodlands, including how to obtain information on local services and ways neighbors can work together before and after an emergency.

Does everyone in your home know what to do in an emergency?
YOUR FAMILY MAY NOT BE TOGETHER WHEN DISASTER STRIKES, SO IT IS IMPORTANT TO PLAN IN ADVANCE:
• How you will contact one another?
• How you will get back together?
• What you will do in different situations?
• Do you have children in daycare or school?
Identify an out-of-town contact. It may be easier to make a longdistance phone call than to call across town, so an out-of-town contact may be in a better position to communicate among separated family members.
Memorize phone numbers. Be sure every member of your family knows the phone numbers and has a cellphone or the ability to call emergency contacts. If you hava a cellphone, save emergency contacts as “ICE” (In Case of Emergency) in your phone. If you are in an accident, emergency personnel will often check your phone for ICE listings in order to contact someone you know. Make sure you tell your family and friends that you have listed them as emergency contacts.
Use text messaging. Make sure all family members know how to use text messaging. These often get around network disruptions when a phone call might not get through.
Consider the different types of emergencies that could occur in our area. Flooding, hurricanes, chemical spills, etc. Discuss with your family what you would do in each situation. Depending on the type of emergency, you may need to shelter in place or evacuate, so have a plan for both possibilities.
Subscribe to Township Alerts at thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/ notifyme. The Woodlands Township will notify you by phone, text or email with important information.
Complete the Family Emergency Plan on the next page. Make sure every member of your family has a copy of this information and keep another copy in your emergency supply kit.
ALSO KEEP IN MIND
You should also inquire about emergency plans at places where you and your family spend the most time: work, daycare, school, faith organizations and sporting events. If no plans exist, consider volunteering to help create one. Talk to community leaders, your colleagues, neighbors and members of faith or civic organizations about working together in the event of an emergency. You will be better prepared to safely reunite your family and loved ones during an emergency if you think ahead and communicate with others in advance.

Food: 3-day supply of non-perishable canned foods and can opener

Always keep a kit of food, water, batteries and other essentials ready to go.
KEEP A “GO BAG” READY AT ALL TIMES
In addition to your full emergency supply kit, you should also have one or two smaller “Go Bags” in your workplace, vehicle or other place where you spend time.
A Go Bag is a collection of items you may need in the event of an evacuation, especially if you are not at home when an evacuation order is issued. A Go Bag should be packed in a sturdy, easy-to-carry water-proof container, like a backpack or suitcase on wheels.
