OLYMPIA… Sen. Keith Goehner added a third special committee to his list of responsibilities as a state lawmaker: the Joint Administrative Rule Review Committee, which selectively reviews executive agency rules and rulemaking.
“I am honored to be appointed to the JARRC. This committee plays a vital role in ensuring that agency rules align with legislative intent and do not burden Washingtonians unnecessarily. I look forward to working with my colleagues to promote transparency and accountability in our state’s regulatory process,” said Goehner, R-Dryden.
Goehner is one of three Republican lawmakers on the bipartisan, bicameral committee. He was appointed by Lt. Gov. Denny Heck, who also serves as president of the state Senate.
The committee reviews agency rules to determine whether they are consistent with legislative intent, have been adopted in accordance with applicable provisions of law, and whether agencies are using policies or interpretive statements in place of rules. Reviews may be initiated by the committee or upon receipt of a petition from a member of the public.
“Washington state agencies create rules that impact businesses, families, and communities across our state. As a member of the JARRC, I will work to ensure that these rules are fair, necessary, and consistent with the laws passed by the Legislature. Our job is to ensure government works for the people, and not vice versa.”
