OLYMPIA… The state Senate on Wednesday passed legislation from Sen. Keith Goehner that would make it more cost-effective for water-sewer districts to offload surplus property.
His legislation would double the current $2,500 threshold for the notice-of-intention requirement water-sewer districts must meet for the sale of personal property.
The threshold for permitting the private sale of real property belonging to districts would increase to $7,500 from the current $5,000 limit.
“This bill allows these junior taxing districts to dispose of surplus property more efficiently,” said Goehner, R-Dryden. “It raises the thresholds for which the districts could sell without a more extensive process of public auction or sales.”
Senate Bill 5467 received overwhelming bipartisan support, passing the Senate 45-1.
The bipartisan bill now moves to the House for further consideration.
