Sat., May 3rd: Celebrate the Cinco de Mayo spirit to the revolutionary sounds of the Beatles with contagious Latin beats: Cumbia, Mambo, Cha-Cha-Cha, Salsa, Bolero, danzón, Reggaeton, Latin Rock and more. What's Cinco de Mayo all about?: On May 5th, 1862, Napoleon III sent 1,000 French troops into Puebla, Mexico as part an effort to establish a French satellite state. Mexican General Zaragoza and his outnumbered force of mostly mestizo (mixed blooded Native-Spanish) locals and Native Zapotec fighters defeated them. Though not the end of the war, the Battle of Puebla became a symbol of Mexican resistance and independence. Join us for food, fun and music at one of Silver Spring's best local music hubs, El Golfo.
