Crystal Lake Park is a hidden gem in Lady's Island. Half of it is a raised boardwalk wrapped around a pond. The other half is packed dirt and sand with exposed roots. The boardwalk section is about .5 a mile maybe. It's wheelchair accessible as accessible gets. It's plenty wide enough for partners to walk side by side. There's plenty of wildlife to see here. A really big alligator calls the pond home and is likely laying on the island in the middle soaking up the sun. Blue and white herons share the area along with lots of turtles and other critters. The front section includes a flower garden to provide habitat for butterflies. There's also a pavilion with wheelchair accessible tables to get out of the sun or have a picnic. If you really want to see the dirt side of the pond you're in luck. Beaufort County Parks offers a free off-road wheelchair to use at their parks, and this is most likely where to pick it up. Just ring the bell on the office door and someone will answer to help you. A forewarning, it's geared really low, so it's terrible for smooth surfaces, because it goes so slow. It's really great on rough surfaces though. There is nothing for blind visitors.
