Project Description
Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (ES), operator of the metro area wastewater collection and treatment system, is replacing and enlarging the aging regional sanitary sewer pipe and structures near Lake of the Isles.
Improvements to the regional sanitary sewer system along The Mall road are being completed in coordination with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board’s (MPRB) planned improvements for The Mall determined as part of a long-term park planning effort completed in 2020.
Improvements to the regional sanitary sewer system along Humboldt Avenue and the City of Minneapolis’ utility work were completed in 2022.
The Mall (tentatively 2026)
We are replacing the existing sanitary sewer pipes along The Mall between Bda Maka Ska Parkway and Humboldt Avenue with new and larger pipes. We anticipate construction will begin spring 2026 and completed in late summer 2026. Final restoration activities may continue through fall 2027.
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) decided not to construct the Woonerf in conjunction with our sewer improvements project. ES will restore The Mall road as directed by MPRB.
