Overview: The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works is working in tandem with Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) to improve pedestrian safety and expand accessibility for people traveling along and across Broad Street. Pedestrian safety and accessibility improvements are planned for a portion of Broad Street between Tulane Avenue and the Lafitte Greenway. The new pedestrian safety improvements are funded 100% through the federal Safe Routes to Public Places Program (SRTPPP).
Project Details:
· Four improved intersection signals with ADA-accessible pedestrian countdown signals at Tulane Avenue, Banks Street, Canal Street, and Bienville Avenue
· New Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (HAWK) signal at Lafitte Greenway to replace the existing Rectangular Rapid-Flashing Beacon (RRFB) system
· Full roadway resurfacing between Tulane Avenue and Bienville Avenue
· Comprehensive ADA-accessible sidewalk repairs between Tulane Avenue and Bienville Avenue
· Installation of improved Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps at intersections
· Improved ADA-accessible bus stops

Project Updates
PROGRESS: Crews have moved into the final phases of removing and replacing sidewalks along the Broad Street Corridor. Continuous outside shoulder closures will be in place. Crews will continue to place infrastructure for pedestrian signals in major intersections.
Look Forward: Crews have made significant progress along the Broad Street corridor between Conti Street and Tulane Avenue. Most of the sidewalk work is complete, pending a few curb ramps and driveways. Crews have placed several pedestrian signal conduits and have begun construction on a pedestrian signal at the Lafitte Greenway and Broad Street.
NO Sidewalk Parking: The Department of Public Works would like to remind residents and business owners to refrain from parking on the sidewalk's, parking enforcement has been notified, and enforcement has begun.
