STARS US 29 Study - Arlington
The study corridor of Route 29 (Langston Boulevard) from North Veitch Street to North Lynn Street in Arlington County is known to serve particularly high volumes of non-motorized traffic (pedestrians, bicycles, scooters etc.) as well as transit riders. The study corridor offers an opportunity to balance the existing right-of-way between vehicular and non-vehicular modes. The existing typical cross section includes three travel lanes per direction, lacks pull-off areas for buses, has narrow sidewalks with limited buffer area has no bicycle access in the eastbound direction, and has a posted speed limit of 40 mph which creates safety challenges for multimodal users. The goal of this project is to reconfigure the study corridor to improve access and safety for non-motorized traffic while ensuring that these improvements will not cause major impact to vehicular operations.
