Button Design Contest

Montana students who compete at National History Day at the University of Maryland trade buttons with students from every other NHD affiliate and wear them throughout the contest. Students try to collect buttons from as many affiliates as they can. 

This year YOU could design Team Montana’s button!

• Any Montana student in grades 4-12 can enter

• Designs can be hand-drawn or digitally designed.

• Designs must include color (not just black & white)

• Designs must fit on a round space

• Designs must relate to Montana or Montana History

• Designs must include the year 2025. 

• (Optional) Designs can relate to the 2025 Theme Rights & Responsibilities in History.

• Designs must be submitted as a .jpg

• Entries are due April 1, 2025

• Students must submit a simple paragraph with their design that:

  • Describes the design

  • Explains why they chose the design

  • Explains how it relates to Montana History

  • (optional) Explain how it relates to the theme Rights & Responsibilities in History
