Grants

NOW OPEN:
Creative Placemaking Grant

The goal of the Creative Placemaking grant opportunity is to fund two (2) distinctive and impactful arts and culture projects that have the potential to attract people to Arlington’s commercial areas, encouraging meaningful interactions with residents, workers, and visitors. By creating or activating spaces for shared arts and cultural experiences, the projects will foster a deeper connection to the community, encouraging a sense of belonging and pride in Arlington, and strengthen the arts ecosystem. These projects should facilitate engagement across cultures, create a welcoming environment for all and consider youth well-being.

Examples of successful grant proposals could include:

  • Temporary public art installation project
  • Arts and cultural programming, events or festivals in outdoor spaces
  • Adaptive reuse of vacant commercial space for the arts-based uses

The outcome of the grant should contribute to the broader economic vitality of Arlington County, attracting visitors, increasing foot traffic and sales for neighboring businesses and create direct investments into the creative economy which includes our local artists and arts-based organizations. To maximize the potential impacts, the grant program also encourages applicants to consider collaborative partnerships with individual artists, arts organizations, non-profits, higher educational institutions, Arlington’s Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) and Neighborhood Partnership Organizations.

Two (2) $50,000 grants will be awarded.

About the Arlington Arts Grants Program

The Arlington Commission for the Arts administers the grants program for Arlington County artists and arts and cultural organizations. The Arlington County Policy for the Support of Arts Organizations and Artists (as approved by the Arlington County Board on December 8, 1990) describes eligibility for the program, application procedures and criteria for evaluation.  The Arlington Arts Grants Program is an important way that the County addresses its investment in our arts infrastructure. As you apply for support, consider the ways in which your work helps to further the vision and values of Enriching Lives: Arlington Arts and Cultural Strategy .

Enriching Lives also aligns with the following goals set forth in the Policy for the Support of Arts Organizations and Artists:

  1. To create a climate within the County that is conducive to the growth and development of Arlington’s artists and arts organizations through public and private support.
  2. To foster the development of excellence and diversity in the arts, ensuring that a varied program of cultural activities is available to satisfy the interests of Arlington’s citizens.
  3. To guarantee to all Arlington artists and arts organizations an open and fair policy which assures equal access to County arts resources.
  4. To encourage development of public/private partnerships in support of the arts.
