Consumer Clothes Dryers

As defined in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), “Electric Clothes Dryers” means a cabinet-like appliance designed to dry fabrics in a tumble-type drum with forced air circulation. The heat source is electricity and the drum and blower(s) are driven by an electric motor(s). 10 CFR 430.2 “Gas Clothes Dryers” means a cabinet-like appliance designed to dry fabrics in a tumble-type drum with forced air circulation. The heat source is gas and the drum and blower(s) are driven be an electric motor(s).  10 CFR 430.2 Manufacturers have been required to comply with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) energy conservation standards for Residential Clothes Dryers since 1988.
