WASHINGTON – Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is among the most bipartisan senators in Congress, according to an independent study by Georgetown University’s Lugar Center.

“During my annual 99 county meetings, Iowans often ask why politicians in Washington can’t get along. I let them know that bipartisanship does happen – it just doesn’t get media attention because it lacks controversy. In fact, bipartisanship is a necessity. Most bills need 60 votes to pass, and we simply don't have 60 senators of the same party,” said Grassley. “I’ll join any one of my colleagues if it means we can get something positive done for the people of Iowa. I’m honored by this recognition and will continue my work passing legislation and improving the lives of Iowans through bipartisanship.”

Of all 100 senators in the 117th Congress, the Lugar Center's Bipartisan Index ranked Grassley in 10th place, making him the 4th most bipartisan Senate Republican. Its report on the first half of the current 118th Congress also listed Grassley among top bipartisan lawmakers, at number 11.

Throughout Grassley’s career representing Iowans in Congress, the index has always classified Grassley between the 5th and 12th most bipartisan members of the Senate. He was also the 2nd most bipartisan member among long-serving senators, behind only Senator Susan Collins. In a survey of all senators spanning 1993 through 2019, Grassley was the 14th most bipartisan senator of the 250 who served over those years.

Grassley was also ranked within the top ten most effective senators in the 117th Congress by the University of Virginia’s and Vanderbilt University’s Center for Effective Lawmaking.
