House members stayed busy with floor sessions this week as the clock ticks down to the constitutional deadline to adjourn on May 19.
This week, the House passed its omnibus policy and budget bills for higher education, commerce, housing, local government, veterans, state government and transportation. The bills are likely headed to conference committees where the House and Senate will reconcile the differences in their policy and budget bills.
The omnibus education budget bill hit a snafu this week. Weeks after the budget bill deadline, the education budget was finally revealed in committee. The House Ways and Means Committee approved the bill and sent it to the House Floor, but a disagreement over the budget came to light during the House Rules and Legislative Administration Committee, delaying it on the floor until — maybe — next week.
The omnibus workforce budget bill remains before the House Ways and Means Committee for review. And one budget bill – health – is still outstanding. What about taxes? Capital investment?
