Spring is here. 🌷 Well, “meteorological spring,” that is, at least according to meteorologists who recognize March 1 as the start of the season based on temperature cycles. This means longer days and warmer weather—perfect for walking or biking to transit. Whether you’re heading to work, school or a weekend adventure, pairing outdoor exercise with public transit is a great way to shake off winter, enjoy the fresh air and stay moving. 🚶♂️🚲

Improving public transportation for America's communities
About us
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) works to improve public transportation for America's communities. Since 1964, FTA has partnered with state and local governments to create and enhance public transportation systems. Today, we invest more than $20 billion annually to support and expand public rail, bus, trolley, ferry and other transit services. That investment has helped modernize public transportation and extended service into small cities and rural communities that previously lacked transit options. FTA also oversees safety measures and helps develop next-generation technology research. An agency within the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), FTA is headed by an administrator appointed by the President of the United States. FTA is one of DOT’s 10 modes of transportation and is run by a headquarters in Washington, D.C. as well as 10 regional offices that assist transit agencies in all states and U.S. territories. FTA is an organization of more than 550 diverse, talented, enthusiastic people working to strengthen American communities, promote economic vitality, and maintain personal freedom through the development and support of public transportation.

A great reminder that you don't have to #TakeTransit (though we recommend it!) to experience its benefits. Transit is an economic driver and a route to new jobs and opportunities.
The impact of transit extends beyond moving a person from Point A to Point B. Across the state, transit is an economic engine that positively impacts Utah's economy. Whether transporting employees to work to provide crucial services, enabling tourists to easily navigate a new community, or bringing federal tax dollars to the state through the building of infrastructure projects, transit affects more than just the riders — even if you never take transit, you still benefit from its existence. #RideUTA #WeMoveYou High Valley Transit, SunTran in City of St. George, Park City Transit, Connect Public Transit

Good news for transit in Hampton, VA. Hampton Roads Transit saw a nearly 26% ridership increase across its bus, light rail, ferry, trolley and paratransit services in 2024—topping 9.6 million rides, the highest in 5 years. Its VB Wave trolley is even back to 2020 ridership levels. With innovative programs like free trips to Norfolk Tides baseball games, new microtransit services and the Freedom Pass, which provides high school students with free fares, HRT is making transit more accessible and convenient throughout the Hampton Roads metro area.

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) and the Port Authority Transit Corporation (PATCO) delivered championship-level performances for the recent Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl Parade. SEPTA carried nearly 400,000 fans on its trains, trolleys and buses, while PATCO transported close to 60,000 on its Speedline—ensuring a smooth ride for thousands of celebrating fans. With free fares on the Market-Frankford Line and Broad Street subway, public transit scored big for parade-goers, improving safety, reducing the need to drive, limiting street congestion and keeping the celebration rolling. #FlyEaglesFly 🏆🦅

💘 Love is in the air—and on transit systems. This #ValentinesDay, some transit agencies are getting creative and spreading the love with fun events and surprises for riders. ❤️ In Maryland, Montgomery County Department of Transportation wants to help you pay for chocolates. 📸 Snap a pic of Flash buses decked out in neon hearts, tag @MCDOTNow and enter to win a $25 gift card! 💑 Looking for love or new friendships in the Bay Area? Hop on the "Valentraine," a unique speed dating experience on a BART train. RSVP required. 🚋 🗽In New York, Metropolitan Transportation Authority wants to help you get to your date and potentially pay for dessert. The agency is giving away two $25 OMNY vouchers along with fun transit-themed merch! 🎟️ Public transit keeps us connected to people and places. Whether you're celebrating love or just love transit – or both, we hope – life is better when you #TakeTransit.
