In Ohio, Cincinnati Metro, Butler County Regional Transit Authority, and TANK (Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky) launched a new pilot service that makes travel across agency borders easier for riders with wheelchairs. Launched on May 5th, the six-month program offers one-way rides for $8. Eligible passengers must be ADA-certified and request trips that begin and end within three-quarters of a mile from a Go Metro, Butler County RTA, or TANK route. The service will operate three vehicles throughout the trial period, each with up to 10 seats.

Improving public transportation for America's communities
About us
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) works to improve public transportation for America's communities. Since 1964, FTA has partnered with state and local governments to create and enhance public transportation systems. Today, we invest more than $20 billion annually to support and expand public rail, bus, trolley, ferry and other transit services. That investment has helped modernize public transportation and extended service into small cities and rural communities that previously lacked transit options. FTA also oversees safety measures and helps develop next-generation technology research. An agency within the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), FTA is headed by an administrator appointed by the President of the United States. FTA is one of DOT’s 10 modes of transportation and is run by a headquarters in Washington, D.C. as well as 10 regional offices that assist transit agencies in all states and U.S. territories. FTA is an organization of more than 550 diverse, talented, enthusiastic people working to strengthen American communities, promote economic vitality, and maintain personal freedom through the development and support of public transportation.

Congratulations to the City of Madison, WI, for topping 1.3 million rides last month—its highest April ridership in nearly a decade and strongest month since 2019. The surge follows Metro’s sweeping system transformation, which included the launch of FTA-funded bus rapid transit, new buses, and modern fare technology. Ridership on Metro’s Rapid Ride A is up 56% compared to last year, while Rapid Route B has seen a 110% increase. tinyurl.com/4hxc6b9m

It’s #NationalPoliceWeek and FTA is proud to honor the extraordinary acts of service carried out by transit officers every day. While on patrol at Bachman Station, DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) officer Lee Cannon found an unresponsive individual on the platform and performed life-saving CPR before paramedics arrived. For his heroism, Officer Cannon was honored with the American Red Cross Lifesaving Award for Professional Responders. 📷: American Red Cross

This #NationalPoliceWeek, FTA is spotlighting the everyday heroes who go above and beyond to keep our communities safe. We’re grateful for caring transit officers like the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA)’s William Juliana, who helped reunite a 10-year-old girl with her family after she boarded the wrong bus and ended up miles from home. Our families are safer with officers like Officer Juliana on patrol. 💙

This #NationalPoliceWeek, FTA recognizes our fearless transit officers who put their lives on the line to protect American families and transit workers. Right outside the U.S. Department of Transportation HQ, a Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) police sergeant was recently stabbed at DC’s Navy Yard metro station. Thankfully, the sergeant has recovered and the suspect was apprehended. This incident is a powerful reminder of the daily risks transit officers face and the importance of cracking down on violent crime to ensure their safety on the job. Thank you to our nation's finest for your unwavering courage that helps keep America moving safely.
