Last month, Metrolink recorded its highest-ever weekend ridership, with over 122,000 boardings, surpassing its previous record set in 2018. With service improvements, expanded off-peak options, and weekend passes, Metrolink is connecting more people to jobs, schools, and community events across Southern California. Nationwide, transit ridership is rising, and FTA is proud to support the work of transit systems as they build a stronger, more connected future. bit.ly/4lQCJP2

Improving public transportation for America's communities
About us
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) works to improve public transportation for America's communities. Since 1964, FTA has partnered with state and local governments to create and enhance public transportation systems. Today, we invest more than $20 billion annually to support and expand public rail, bus, trolley, ferry and other transit services. That investment has helped modernize public transportation and extended service into small cities and rural communities that previously lacked transit options. FTA also oversees safety measures and helps develop next-generation technology research. An agency within the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), FTA is headed by an administrator appointed by the President of the United States. FTA is one of DOT’s 10 modes of transportation and is run by a headquarters in Washington, D.C. as well as 10 regional offices that assist transit agencies in all states and U.S. territories. FTA is an organization of more than 550 diverse, talented, enthusiastic people working to strengthen American communities, promote economic vitality, and maintain personal freedom through the development and support of public transportation.

In less than six months, IndyGo’s newest bus rapid transit service, the Purple Line, has become the system’s top-performing route, recording over 102,000 trips in March. Thanks to $81 million in FTA support, the 15-mile BRT route has made an immediate impact, connecting Indianapolis residents to destinations such as Ivy Tech Community College, the Indiana State Fairgrounds, job centers, medical facilities, and more.

In Kansas City, KCATA is turning residents into neighborhood champions through its “Adopt-A-Stop” program. Launched in 2023, the initiative empowers local businesses, schools, and community groups to help keep bus stops clean by picking up litter and reporting vandalism. It’s a way to take pride in the city, and volunteers receive a personalized sign at “their” stop. The goal: 1,000 adopted stops before the 2026 World Cup! 🌎🚌 Learn more: bit.ly/3Ew087Q
Happy #EarthDay, #Kansas City! 🌎 Thank you to #RideKC staff and our amazing Adopt-A-Stop partners Pembroke Hill School, City Barrel and Ruby Jean's Juicery who participated in this morning’s bus stop clean-up events around the community. 🚮🚍 Learn more about the program and how you can get involved: https://lnkd.in/gHJ3Z2f7

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority recently opened its Autonomous Innovation Center and introduced the agency’s new autonomous vehicle service. Launching this summer, NAVI marks the first phase of JTA’s Ultimate Urban Circulator program, an initiative to modernize Jacksonville’s Skyway by developing a 10-mile autonomous transit network connecting key destinations and neighborhoods. Service will begin along the 3.5-mile Bay Street Innovation Corridor, linking downtown to the Sports & Entertainment District. The launch shows how innovation and transit go hand in hand to transform mobility across the nation. bit.ly/3Glc5h0

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) recently announced a major mixed-use development at Deanwood Metro Station in Washington, DC, bringing new homes, retail, job training facilities, and a 20,000-square-foot public library to the community. By transforming underused land into a vibrant community hub, the project will create new opportunities for residents—right where they live and ride. This transit-oriented development will be the latest of a long list of rejuvenated neighborhoods that, thanks to transit, will experience new amenities and a stronger economy. bit.ly/3YFN32u

Answer: This “Jeopardy!” host has a new video series highlighting the benefits of transit. If you asked, “Who is Ken Jennings?” you’re right on the money. “Before my ‘Jeopardy!’ fame, I knew public transportation’s ability to transform communities and empower people is far from trivial,” Jennings says in the first episode of “The Transit Effect.” A Seattle-area resident, he kicks off the series by spotlighting how investments by Snohomish County’s Community Transit and Seattle’s Sound Transit are driving a renaissance along transit corridors—and why this matters nationwide. Check out the first of seven videos exploring how transit shapes lives, strengthens communities, and expands opportunities. bit.ly/4d3CyfD
