  • The Minnesota Public Health Laboratory helps protect the health of Minnesotans...and Texans! Texas is currently facing a measles outbreak. Minnesota has partnered with public health labs across Texas to sequence measles specimens, allowing the laboratorians to determine the strain of measles virus and potentially connect the cases to prevent the spread. Measles is a highly contagious virus infecting people of all ages but is particularly dangerous for those who have not received the measles vaccine. Minnesota is proud to collaborate with Texas and do for their residents what we do for our own: identify, educate, and protect.

Newborns get their first protection from vaccines given to their birth parent during pregnancy. This protection decreases over the baby’s first year, so they need their own vaccinations to protect them from serious illnesses.
