  • HAPI Employee Resource Group debuts new logo! The Hawaiian, Asian, and Pacific Islander (HAPI) Employee Resource Group (ERG) recently reached a milestone: the group selected its first official logo, designed by one of its own members. ERGs are voluntary, employee-led groups that help foster a more inclusive workplace. HAPI member Kavier Lo of DOR’s Customer Experience and Communications division created the new logo. “It’s an honor to have my design chosen, and I hope it continues to reflect the unity, strength, and diversity of the HAPI community," said Kavier. Kavier’s logo features a rough-edged mountain shape with various upward paths forming the letters “HAPI” within its triangular form. Because the logo would represent the entire HAPI community, the design and selection process was approached with intention and care. HAPI members submitted original designs, which went through an external review process before being presented to the group for a final vote. “The process in creating HAPI’s logo reflects how important it is to invite everyone’s voices, talents, and strengths to the table,” said Revenue’s Employee Engagement & Belonging Manager Joanna Falcatan, who is one of HAPI’s executive sponsors. “It’s a celebration of the diverse identities within the HAPI community, a commitment to take action on challenges that still exist, and a reminder that with allies, our agency can continue to build a sense of belonging for everyone.”

  • DOR Employees Making a Global Impact: Perry Stern’s Volunteer Work in Maasailand 🌍  Our Tax Policy Specialist Perry Stern has been making a difference in Maasailand, Kenya, through her work with the Institute of Maasai Education, Research, and Conservation (MERC) and the Maasai Grassroots Justice Clinic (MGJC). Perry, a lawyer passionate about human rights, was inspired during a trip to Kenya in 2023 to develop a paralegal training program for Maasai activists. In 2024, she trained the first cohort of Maasai community paralegals, who are now educating their community on environmental and land justice issues. Her dedication extends beyond legal education: she also distributes feminine hygiene kits to help keep young Maasai girls in school. 🌟 The Maasai community have given Perry the name Kilokunye (Kee-LOW-kwen-yay) which means, “one who comes in a surprising way.” And indeed, we are amazed at her story! Perry’s work exemplifies how our employees are committed to making a difference worldwide, and we are incredibly proud of her efforts. #EmployeeSpotlight #CommunityImpact #SocialJustice #GlobalChange
