  • DOR Employees Making a Global Impact: Perry Stern’s Volunteer Work in Maasailand 🌍  Our Tax Policy Specialist Perry Stern has been making a difference in Maasailand, Kenya, through her work with the Institute of Maasai Education, Research, and Conservation (MERC) and the Maasai Grassroots Justice Clinic (MGJC). Perry, a lawyer passionate about human rights, was inspired during a trip to Kenya in 2023 to develop a paralegal training program for Maasai activists. In 2024, she trained the first cohort of Maasai community paralegals, who are now educating their community on environmental and land justice issues. Her dedication extends beyond legal education: she also distributes feminine hygiene kits to help keep young Maasai girls in school. 🌟 The Maasai community have given Perry the name Kilokunye (Kee-LOW-kwen-yay) which means, “one who comes in a surprising way.” And indeed, we are amazed at her story! Perry’s work exemplifies how our employees are committed to making a difference worldwide, and we are incredibly proud of her efforts. #EmployeeSpotlight #CommunityImpact #SocialJustice #GlobalChange

  • DOR launched the Latino Employee Resource Group (ERG) at Revenue this past February! ERGs are voluntary, employee-led groups that help foster a more inclusive workplace. This new Latino ERG joins our other groups supporting veterans, LGBTQIA+ employees, and people of Hawaiian, Asian, and Pacific Islander descent. By building connections and providing support, we celebrate our diversity while addressing issues that matter to our communities. DOR employee Stephanie Mora-Elizalde shares why this new ERG means so much to her: “As the daughter of migrant farm workers, I saw firsthand the struggles of the immigrant community—those who often felt invisible, unheard, and left behind. Growing up, I didn’t see many people who looked like me or shared similar experiences in leadership roles or professional spaces." Stephanie continues, "But today, I work for an agency that allows me to advocate for people who have faced similar struggles—people who are often marginalized. I can use my personal experiences to help others navigate their own obstacles. I feel a deep sense of pride in being a representative of the community I serve, especially knowing how much representation matters. " “This is why I’m so passionate about forming this new Latino Employee Resource Group within our agency," Stephanie shared. "It’s more than just a community; it’s a platform where we can come together to celebrate our culture, share our experiences, and lift each other up. It’s time we all feel empowered to be our authentic selves, and through unity and representation, we can make a difference for ourselves and for those who follow in our footsteps.”  We’re excited for the impact this new ERG will have! 💙 #CelebrateDiversity #RepresentationMatters #SomosRevenue
