Always do the following

  • yesWear a helmet
  • yesYield to pedestrians
  • yesRide in the bike lane or with traffic
  • yesFollow the same traffic laws as bicyclists
  • yesRide as close as safely possible to the right-hand side of the road

 

It's illegal to do the following

  • noRide on the sidewalk
  • noRide with more than one person on a scooter

Minnesota Statute 169.225 regulates scooter riding.

Where you can ride

  • Bike paths
  • Paths and trails (unless signs ban it)

Scooter rides outside of Minneapolis

Scooter service areas

Please check service areas before your trip. Some scooter providers allow for trips to leave Minneapolis. You're responsible for following the scooter rules and laws of the city you're riding in.

When a ride ends outside the city

  • You cannot rent scooters left outside of Minneapolis.
  • You cannot place another ride until you return the scooter to Minneapolis.

Avoid the Clear Zone

Sidewalk clear zones

  • A sidewalk clear zone is an accessible main pedestrian path that runs alongside the street.
  • The clear zone means there must be at least 4 feet of clear sidewalk space for everyone.
  • The clear zone ensures that pedestrians have a safe, obstruction-free path.

Scooter clear zone

Do not ride or park scooters in the clear zone. This helps keep those walking and rolling safe.
