Food benefits for school-aged kids

Summer EBT is a grocery benefits program. It helps families buy food for their school-aged children when school is out. Each summer, families will get one yearly payment of $120 for each eligible child to buy groceries.

Important dates

  • May 19, 2025: Oregon Summer EBT Call Center opens and the 2025 program starts.
  • May 22, 2025: Families who qualify automatically will begin to get their benefits.
  • May 30, 2025: Paper and online applications will start being processed.
  • Sept. 3, 2025: Last day to apply for 2025 benefits.

About Summer EBT

Children who are automatically eligible do not need to apply.

Your school-aged child is automatically eligible for Summer EBT if:

Students who attend Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) schools, virtual academies or are homeschooled may be automatically eligible if they meet requirements.

Did you apply for and get Summer EBT in 2024? If you applied for Summer EBT in 2024 and were approved, your family will automatically get the benefit in 2025. You don’t need to apply again.

Your family needs to apply if:

  • Your child attends a school that participates in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) or School Breakfast Program (SBP) and your household income is at or below 185 percent of the Federal Poverty Level
  • You were automatically eligible for Summer EBT 2024 because you were participating in one of the programs below and ​you stopped receiving these benefits before July 1, 2024:
    • SNAP​
    • TANF
    • Oregon Health Plan (Medicaid)
    • Child Welfare Foster Care

Families with child​ren in Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) schools may need to apply. 

  • ​All students in CEP schools receive free meals. Students in CEP schools are not automatically eligible for Summer EBT. Families must meet other criteria to qualify. 
  • Call the Summer EBT Call Center at 83​3-673-7328 to see if you should apply.

An application will determine if you are eligible based on your household size and income. You can apply anytime​. ​​We'll send you a letter about your child's eligibility.​​​

Your family may not need to apply if:

  • You got Summer EBT last year through an approved application. Your 2024 Summer EBT application will be used to verify 2025 Summer EBT eligibility. Your family will get the benefits on May 22, 2025.

Summer EBT will be put on an Oregon EBT card (Oregon Trail Card). You can use the card to buy food at grocery stores, farmers markets and other places that accept EBT cards.

If your household already has an Oregon EBT account, the benefits will be added to your existing card. For eligible children who do not already have an Oregon EBT card, one will be mailed to the latest address on file.

​​Benefits fo​r children who live in the same household will be put on one Oregon EBT card whenever possible.​​​​

Summer EBT does not affect you or your child’s immigration status. The public charge rule does not apply to Summer EBT benefits.

Also, the Summer EBT program does not ask for immigration status and does not use i​mmigration status to determine eligibility.


Frequently asked questions

F​or children who are automatically eligible or who were approved through a 2024 Summer EBT application, Summer EBT food benefits will start to be issued on May 22, 2025.

If your child was automatically eligible, you will receive a letter after benefits are issued, confirming their eligibility. If you signed up for email notification, you may also get a message when your child’s benefits have been sent.

For new applicants in 2025, benefits will star​t after your application is reviewed and approved. Application processing starts May 30, 2025. We will send you a notice by mail about your child’s eligibility within 15 days of your application being processed.

​​If you have an Oregon EBT card, you can check your balance by visiting www.ebtedge.com​. You can also call the number on the back of your Oregon EBT card or look at your last store receipt for a benefit balance.

​​​Families who applied for Summer EBT or have a ONE Eligibility case associated with them can check the status of their Summer EBT benefits, update their ad​dress or request a replacement Oregon EBT card with Manage my Benefits​.

You can protect your Oregon EBT card and benefits from electronic theft by following a few simple tips​. Stolen Summer EBT benefits can’t be replaced.

You can use your Summer EBT benefits at any store or farmer’s market that accepts EBT, including online from Amazon and Walmart. Most retailers have signs saying they accept SNAP or EBT.

Summer EBT benefits can be used to buy any food that can be bought with SNAP. SNAP eligible food​ is most foods, except prepared foods and foods sold hot.

Summer EBT benefits can be used for Double Up Food Bucks. The program matches every $1 of benefits spent up to $20 on fresh fruit and vegetables. You can use Double Up at over 85 farmers market locations, 35 grocery stores and more than 40 CSA farms across the state.​

Yes. ​​​Summer EBT benefits expire four months (122 calendar days) after the show up on your EBT card​. Please use your Summer EBT benefits to purchase food before they are removed from the card.​

If your card or benefits have been stolen, cancel your card immediately.

  • If it's a weekday between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Pacific Time:
    • Call the replacement card line at 855-328-6715 to cancel your card and request a new one. You will get a replacement card by mail, usually within five business days.
    • Add Call Center info as another option to request a replacement EBT card.
  • If it's a weekend or outside normal business hours:
    • Right away: Call the 24-hour toll-free customer service line at 888-997-4447 to cancel your card and protect your benefits.
    • Then during business hours: Call the replacement card line at 855-328-6715 to request a new card. You will get a replacement card by mail, usually within five business days.

Please hold on to the new Oregon EBT card. It may be used for future benefits.​
