From the District

Minority Report

Senate Bill 916 would allow for members of a union that chose to strike to be able to draw unemployment during that strike.   My colleague filed a minority report on SB 916 to challenge the bill and give another opportunity to make it just and fair.  You can hear my floor speech on the minority report at this link.  This was not just a party line issue and certainly had some concern on both sides of the aisle.

Visitors at the Capitol

It is my profound honor to meet so many folks from Senate District 16.  They come for a myriad of reasons, but to step into this building and advocate for your cause is wildly important.   This last week we had many wonderful guest.

Early Intervention Meeting

Néstor, Chris Mathison and Dona Johnson, an occupational therapist with NWRESD, sharing their lived experience.   Along with Nestor and Chris, we heard from many other parents that shared the importance of services they and their kids have received through Early Intervention and Early Childhood Special Education.  Please consider watching this short video compilation of their day of advocacy by clicking HERE, or the picture below.

Katie from Astoria

food for all

Food for all Oregonians advocacy day was well received in the Capitol.   I had the pleasure of meeting with constituents from our district who work day in and day out to assist our communities with food needs.

Please take a moment to check out North Plains Food Bank and support them if you are able.

Food for All Oregonians

Charter Schools

Oregon Coalition of Community Charter Schools came to share their legislative priorities for this session.   I enjoyed hearing their personal education experience.

St Helens

I had a wonderful visit with Sharon and Mouhamad, city staff in St. Helens.  They were able to stop in for a quick visit before joining in the activities for Water Day at the Capitol.  This event, put on by the Legislative Water Caucus, was a day of learning and community building to elevate water as a priority in Oregon.
