Withholding tax filers: Our improved withholding tax and wage reporting applications are live.

Because of the recent improvements to withholding tax and wage reporting forms and applications, the filing process is different for your quarterly return—Form NYS-45, Quarterly Combined Withholding, Wage Reporting, Unemployment Insurance Return—due April 30, 2025. Troubleshooting tips

If you are having trouble logging in to your Online Services account, follow these tips before continuing.

Clear your cookies, temporary files, and history from your browser. Select your browser from the list below and follow the instructions.

Don't use browser bookmarks or favorites for the Online Services login page or any pages in your Online Services account. Instead:

  1. Visit the Tax Department's website at www.tax.ny.gov or the Online Services homepage at www.tax.ny.gov/online/.
  2. Select Log in in the banner at the top right.
  3. Log in to your Online Services account.

Having trouble?

If the above steps do not work for you, try:

  • opening a private browser window, going into Incognito mode, or using private browsing (usually in the upper right corner of your browser, if available)
  • using a different browser,
  • logging in from another device (try using your phone, tablet, or another computer), or
  • restarting your computer.

Note: If you log in and don’t see your services, you may be logged into the wrong account. Make sure you are logged into the correct OLS account (for example, your individual account rather than your business account)

Getting an error message?

We run maintenance on our online services every: 

  • Monday through Saturday from 4:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.
  • Sunday from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

If you receive a maintenance message during one of these times, please try again after the time period has passed.

If you receive a maintenance message outside these time frames, a technical error has occurred. Please close this application or service and start again.

Forgot your username or password

Use our Forgot your username service to retrieve the NY.gov account usernames associated with your email address.

Use our Forgot your password service to reset the password for your Online Services account.

Change or reset a password

To change your password while logged in to your Online Services account:

  1. Select your name in the top-right of your account.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Select Edit personal information.
  4. Complete the Login information section. Please note this will be a temporary password. You will be required to create a permanent password the next time you log in.
  5. Select Save.

As a Master Administrator, you may reset the password of your users. To reset the password for one of your users:

  1. Log in to your Online Services account.
  2. Select the Services menu in the upper left of your Account Summary homepage.
  3. Select User summary.
  4. Select the Actions menu corresponding to your user.
  5. Select Edit user.
  6. Complete the Login information section.
  7. Select Save & Continue.

When the user logs in to their Online Services account with a temporary password, they will be prompted to create a permanent password.

As an Administrator or Manager on a Tax Professional account, you may reset the password of your employees.  To reset the password for one of your employees:

  1. Log in to your Online Services account.
  2. Select the Services menu in the upper left of your Account Summary
  3. Select Employee Summary.
  4. Select the Actions menu corresponding to your employee.
  5. Select Edit employee.
  6. Complete the Login information
  7. Select Save & Continue.

When the employee logs in to their Online Services account with a temporary password, they will be prompted to create a permanent password.

Account update: additional authentication

If you log in to your Online Services account and see a page that says "Account Update: Your NY.gov account security is our top priority. To ensure your security, your account has been selected for an additional authentication process," you can restore access to your account by using our Forgot your password service and opting to Reset using email when prompted.

To have the best experience possible, your Internet browser must be compatible with the Department of Taxation and Finance website. Our website supports the most recent versions of:

  • Microsoft Edge
  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Apple Safari

JavaScript must be enabled for your browser to work with our website.
