Extremely Critical Fire Weather in the Southern Plains; Heavy Snow and Possible Blizzard Conditions in the Central Rockies and Upper Midwest

Strong winds and dry conditions will bring extremely critical fire weather (Level 3 of 3) today and a possible wildfire outbreak across portions of southeastern New Mexico into northwest Texas, the Texas Panhandle, and western Oklahoma. Severe Weather Awareness Week For Virginia

 March 10th - 14th, 2025 

 

Please join us in promoting severe weather safety during this year's "Severe Weather Awareness Week". The National Weather Service asks emergency management, public safety officials, local media and Weather-Ready Nation Ambassadors to help join forces in improving the nation's readiness, responsiveness, and overall resilience against severe weather during the upcoming season. 

NWS Wakefield Skywarn Spotter Training

Virtual Skywarn training classes will offered during Virginia's Severe Weather Awareness week.  A basic training class has been scheduled for Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at 1 PM and an Advance class is scheduled for Thursday, March 13, 2025 at 1 PM.  Additional in person classes have been scheduled for the spring, too! Severe Weather Awareness Week Activities.

March 11, 2025 -- StatewideTornado Drill and "Show Your Shelter" social media event to show your participation in the Tornado Drill.  See the EVENTS tab below for how to particpate. Please register yourself or your organization with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management so we can track how many people are particpating in the Tornado Drill.
