MARTINS FERRY, Ohio — The 2nd annual Kendall Behavioral Solutions Trunk or Treat took place Tuesday in Martins Ferry for families with children who have disabilities.
Each trunk at the event served as a community resource from Jobs and Family Services to schools to juvenile courts.
This year, organizers added more sensory objects like a glow in the dark rope, sensory trails, tables, and more.
The event is staged to help attendees feel comfortable getting candy in a closed environment.
"I think our area is growing with special needs and behavioral health and, so, it’s really nice not only for the kids, but for the parents to see what resources are available,” Katie Kendall, owner of Kendal Behavioral Services, said.
"I love that it’s all ages,” Kara Erwin, regional director for the ARC of Ohio, said. “A lot of times, individuals with developmental disabilities, they just really have a special interest in costumes and dressing up. So, it gives all ages an opportunity to wear a costume."
Kendall Behavioral Solutions will have more sensory-friendly events in December.
