🌲 “I do care about their success today, but I really care about their success when they are 25 and 35 and 45,” says Steve Albrechtsen, a natural resource science, forestry and biology teacher at Neah-Kah-Nie High School. “I want them to be independent, sovereign individuals in a place that they love.” At Neah-Kah-Nie, the Natural Resources program is doing just that — preparing students with hands-on skills like axe throwing, tree scaling, log choking and tree identification. In a region where 90% of the land is forested, these are more than just cool skills — they’re tools for building a future right in their backyard. 🌲🌄 Students also get opportunities to compete in Future Natural Resource Leaders events and connect with mentors from emergency services, forest product companies and the Oregon Department of Forestry. This is what education rooted in place and purpose looks like. #naturalresources #careerconnectedlearning #futureleaders #forestry
